Background & Vision

Fizzy Bean Animal Sanctuary is the culmination of two decades of work, research, and passion. The idea was planted when founder Lindsay Marzulla began working at a pet store during college. It sprouted slowly over the years as she witnessed the mistreatment and neglect of animals at the hands of people who claimed to love them. After there were multiple investigations into the welfare conditions at some of the company's animal suppliers, Lindsay realized that there was a much larger, systemic problem at play.

The Western world has built a society that values human life over all others, creating an artificial hierarchy. In reality, all of life is interconnected, and our non-human relations deserve equal respect and compassion. We believe that these relational values are key components for how we can heal and move forward sustainably. Part of our organization's mission is to create educational programming that will share this message with the public.

Sanctuary

Our vision for the sanctuary includes several acres of land for larger animals to roam and for additional shelters or habitats to be constructed. A few of these structures include an aviary, a terrarium/greenhouse, and an aquarium. We intend to have a garden big enough to grow healthy, organic food for our residents.

We envision a sanctuary that serves as a meditative, healing, and joyful space for all.

Short Term Goals

Our goal is to purchase a property suitable for sanctuary in Massachusetts, New York, or Vermont by 2025. We have set a short-term fundraising goal of $20k between now and then. This will ensure our ability to hit the ground running after the property is obtained and create the infrastructure needed in order to begin welcoming residents.

The Original Fizzy Bean

The name for our sanctuary is inspired by a dog named Fizzgig (AKA Fizzy, Fizzy Bean, or simply Bean). Fizzy was sweet, silly, sassy, and was adored by everyone who knew her. She lives on in our hearts and memories.
